A prominent scientist, loving husband and father, Byron Cruise was an exceptionally gifted bioengineer. After acquiring a prestigious government contract to forward research on biocell alteration technology, he and his staff worked to enhance the human genome to unlock unlimited inhuman potential. Dr. Byron was given the authorization to work with a strand of Nephilim DNA extracted from a classified source.

As the government facility was being shut down, Byron managed to inject himself with his latest untested antibody, determining that it would be the only way he could continue his research—knowing full well that most everything he spent years working on would be terminated and he would not have access to what remained. He managed to conceal what he had done and was able to use his own blood samples to work in the private sector, hoping to have a breakthrough.

He hired a small staff and secured a silent partner to help fund his research—a young staff member by the name of Jackson O’Neal, who played a vital role in attempting to reproduce the viral strand of the injected serum. During this time, Byron and his wife Patricia were with child. The virus was transmitted sexually to his wife, which affected their yet-to-be-named child, Logan, with his still-developing cells absorbing and utilizing the nutrients created within the womb.

Ten years later, Patricia would again become pregnant with their second son, Landon. Byron and Logan always had an estranged relationship, and as he went through adolescence, it only made things worse.

Logan's exposure changed his molecular signature at a slower pace than Landon, because Landon was conceived with both his parents already exposed to the dormant genome. Therefore, Dr. Byron did not witness the changes caused by the strand. However, when Landon was going through puberty, it became apparent that he had passed this to his son.

Landon was an avid athlete, and his father would regularly attend his events. During one of his lacrosse games, he outperformed every single one of the players on the field. He started demonstrating great feats of strength and agility like never before. Dr. Byron started working closer with his son, pushing what he thought were his limits—recording new data after he was beginning to lose faith in his life’s research.

Though they were never able to fully realize the biocell alteration technology as intended, Jack was approached by a buyer. In efforts to make a profit from all of his work helping Dr. Cruise, Jack stole a vial of the serum and tried to sell it on the black market. After a failed attempt, Byron discovered what Jack had done and confronted him about it. Enraged and frustrated, Jack took it upon himself to take Byron's life.
